Sat 22 Sep 2007 Cheeky Darkies in Paekakariki Paekakariki Wellington Music Video Release Party The notoriously risque performance artist Sheba, is finally releasing her first song and music video. She has written the song produced the recording entitled "Paekakariki" as well as directing and producing the music video, and is releasing as "Sheba." The song was written while she was living in Paeakakariki after returning from singing in Shanghai. It's style is mix of charleston meets calypso, drawing on her research in 1920s music, especially that of Josephine Baker, who she drew inspiration from for the music video. The musicians on the recording are a mix of her current band (Myele Manzanza - Olmecha Supreme, Crete Haami - Holly Smith Band, Peter Hill - Age Pryor, Lex French) and her Shanghai Band (Tim Solly and Richard Wise.) For those who miss the screening, the song and video will appear on www.myspace.com/shebawilliams. The show is a 1920's black and white party, and the audience is encouraged to dress to kill, as there will be prizes. |
